A Stunning Connecticut Proposal Photoshoot in Groton

Who doesn’t love a surprise proposal? As a Connecticut proposal photographer, the moment when someone asks “will you marry me?” is one of my absolute favorite things to capture. There is something so incredibly intimate and special about being there to photograph people on one of the most important days of their lives, and I love being a part of the surprise and joy that a proposal brings.

So, with less than 100 days until Jillian and Parker’s wedding, now seems like a perfect time to share their Connecticut proposal photography and story on the blog.

Proposal Preparation

Jill’s friend Olivia got in touch with me about photographing Parker’s proposal in Groton, Connecticut. I was so excited when I got her email and heard about Parker’s plan. Parker and I scheduled a time to talk on the phone and run through how the day would go. I gave him my best proposal photographer tips, including to make sure that Jill was facing where I would be so I could get her facial expression while Parker was down on one knee.

Once we had fully ironed out the plan, the countdown to their proposal began!

The Day Of Jill & Parker’s Connecticut Proposal

I arrived to a beautiful family home in Groton, CT overlooking the Shennecosset Golf Course. Parker was out with Jill at Dairy Queen distracting her until the proposal, which gave me enough time to arrive at the house, say a very excited hello to the friends and family waiting to watch the moment, and get into position. I may or may not have hid inside a literal tree while waiting for Jill and Parker to arrive, but it definitely worked out because Jill didn’t see me at all. It ended up being the perfect place to wait and then to capture Jill’s beautiful reaction as Parker proposed. SHE SAID YES!!

Of course, at this point I had emerged from the tree and was able to capture Jill’s immediate reaction to the proposal (tears and smiles!!) and close-ups of the moment. She didn’t even see me right away because she was so consumed in the emotions of the moment. Proposal photography is crazy like that!

One of the best parts was that 30 of their closest family and friends got to watch the whole thing from the patio deck… and then come down to take some photos and CELEBRATE!! I loved seeing Parker’s excited fist bump to everyone watching from above.

Once Jill and Parker had greeted everyone and given lots of excited hugs, we took some photos of them with all of the special people who were able to share this day with them. And of course, I pulled Jill and Parker aside to grab some couples photography with them and close-ups of Jill’s gorgeous new ring. Jill told everyone that she was truly so surprised– she was eating Dairy Queen in the car, completely unaware of what was to come!!

I left after taking dozens of photos with a very full heart. Days like this one always remind me how grateful I am to be a proposal photographer in Connecticut. It is such a gift to be a part of the pure joy present in these moments!! Proposals are becoming one of my favorite things to capture and I cannot wait to continue preserving these amazing memories for my clients all over New England.
