Stunning PINK Cap and Gown College Graduation Photos at Narragansett Beach | URI

I LOVE when grads have a specific vision or concept for their photoshoot— for Sophia’s University of Rhode Island graduation shoot, she wanted to THINK PINK!

Sophia got a pink cap and gown to put her own spin on her Rhode Island graduation photos, and she MADE the pink stole that she’s wearing!! I was so impressed with how she customized it and I love that it’s unique to her. Unique touches like this are one of the best ways to make your grad photos stand out and become even more special to you. Of course it’s fun to take graduation photos in your school colors, but for anyone who loves pink (or any other fun color), I think theming your grad photos around a favorite color is just so creative and fun!!

Since Sophia is graduating from the University of Rhode Island, she thought a photoshoot on one of Rhode Island’s gorgeous beaches would make the perfect backdrop for her college graduation photos. We settled on taking her grad photos at Narragansett Beach, one of the stunning town beaches on the coast of Rhode Island. I was so happy to be shooting here; the waves and sand are absolutely gorgeous!

We originally planned to shoot in the evening, but when we saw rain on the forecast we decided to move our shoot to the morning. And I’m actually so glad we did! We had the beach almost entirely to ourselves, and it was such a fun way to start the day for these Rhode Island graduation photos. Narragansett Beach was quiet and so gorgeous, and it made the perfect backdrop for Sophia’s grad session celebrating her time at URI.

Sophia’s mom also got to jump in a few photos, and they came out SO CUTE!! I am always open to having a family member join in the celebration for grad pics. Plus, we used all biodegradable confetti here (which I definitely recommend for my grads!), which was not only so picturesque but also friendly to the environment.

I am truly OBSESSED with how these photos came out and I cannot get over the pink cap and gown!!! Though graduation marks the end of Sophia’s time at the University of Rhode Island, this is now the start of an exciting new chapter. Congratulations to this beautiful URI grad!

If you’re looking to do a Rhode Island or Massachusetts graduation photoshoot like Sophia’s, I also wanted to answer some frequently asked questions that will help you plan your own amazing graduation photoshoot!

Where can I get a pink cap and gown for my college graduation photos?

If you’re looking to purchase a pink cap and gown session for your college grad photos, the best place to order your gown is probably Amazon! Putting “pink cap and gown” into the search bar is likely to show you plenty of options so you can find your perfect pink cap and gown. You can also check stores that are specifically for graduation apparel, like Graduation World.

Can I take my Rhode Island graduation photos at Narragansett Beach?

Narragansett Beach is a great option for your Rhode Island graduation photo session!  Shooting in the off-season is totally free, and you can park in almost any of the nearby lots to get onto the beach. After the beach opens for the season, which is usually over Memorial Day weekend, you can definitely still shoot here, but you’ll likely have to pay a fee unless you have a seasonal beach/parking pass. Additionally, be aware that after Memorial Day weekend there will likely be increased crowds on the beach!

Why take Rhode Island graduation photos at the beach?

The beach is a great location for your Rhode Island graduation photos! Because Rhode Island is known for its beautiful coastal beaches, a beach session is an amazing way to commemorate your time in RI. Additionally, waves and sand make a gorgeous backdrop for any photoshoot! The neutral colors mean your outfit will pop, and the ocean in the background always looks stunning in photos.

Is it better to take Rhode Island beach graduation photos in the morning or at night?

There are benefits to shooting in the morning and at night at any Rhode Island beach for graduation photos! The morning offers gorgeous light– if you’re willing to get up early enough. You’re also likely to have a quieter beach in the early morning, meaning you won’t be fighting crowds of beach-goers. If you do shoot in the morning, you’ll have to get up at a fairly early hour to make sure you have time to get ready and get to the beach!

Shooting in the evening is also super lovely, especially if you’re planning your session for golden hour. Both golden hour and blue hour on the beach or gorgeous, and you have a great chance of catching a beautiful sunset. Plus, it’s always fun to end your day with a photoshoot! However, be aware that the beach tends to have more people at night coming to watch the sunset or finishing up their beach day, so you may need to share the space or find a quiet spot of your own.
